Who may sit next to you?

Your companion must be registered by name on your test certificate. You can register several people, for example both parents and an aunt.

The companion is not an instructor – they simply support you with their experience.

Requirements for companions

  • At least 30 years old
  • Class B licence for at least 5 years
  • Max. 1 point in the Flensburg register
  • Registered by nameon your test certificate
  • Sober while accompanyingbelow 0.5 per mille, no drugs
At 18

What changes at 18.

Until your 18th birthday you drive with the test certificate. Then you exchange it for the card licence. Within Germany it remains valid as proof for three months after your birthday.

The probation period already starts at 17 and lasts two years – the accompanied year counts.

FAQ

Good to know.

What happens if I drive without a companion?

Your licence is revoked, plus a fine and an improvement seminar. It is not worth it.

Does the companion need to take a course?

No. They only need to meet the requirements and be registered.

Can I take the theory test in English?

Yes. The theory test is available in German and twelve other languages, including English, Turkish and Arabic. Our classroom lessons are in German, but our instructors happily answer your questions in English, Turkish or Arabic.
